Why do so many strands of hair fall out when I brush my hair? Read details please ?

I am a 44 year old woman who has tons and tons of thick hair. I wish my hair was thinner – I have plenty to spare. HOWEVER, whenever I brush my hair, I would estimate that 50 strands fall to the floor. The only reason this bothers me is because I HATE seeing hair on the floor and having to clean it up. I wouldn’t mind having less hair, but I’d rather let my hairdresser thin it out with thinning scissors than have it be all over the floor of my bathroom or shower. Is there a vitamin/mineral supplement that will help prevent my hair coming out so much? Am I having a health problem that is causing my hair to come out so much, or is this normal for women my age? Thanks.

The average person loses about 100 strands including the root every day. Having your hairdresser cut your hair thinner will not prevent the same rate of hair loss because the Hairr must come out at the root as part of the process of getting new hair. As each hair falls it is replaced with the growth of new hair which grows at about 1/2 inch per month. It is similar to how the body grows new skin cells and loses old ones every day. The amount of hair loss you have is within normal limits and there is no way to prevent the body’s natural renewal of growing new hairs.
