No essential oils really kill germs?

I'm trying to figure out if the transmission of essential oils will kill germs in the air (Such as cold viruses and influenza) and if you really can make an effective cleaner general purpose household use essential oils?

The answer is Yes Entomology Research Institute at Loyola College in Chennai, India conducted the research with 21 essential oils and 6 species of bacteria.
