What is a 72 hour kit?
From past experience it usually takes about 72 hours after a disaster for relief agencies to reach the area, has created and organized to handle the needs of the emergency. Therefore it is important that we have in hand, and quick access, a kit that will help us survive first hours and days. This is called usually a day 3 or 72 hour emergency kit.
Remember that a 72-hour kit is for the purpose of survival. Can not have all the luxuries that sometimes you'd like, but you have the necessary items. Therefore an easy carrying bag is ideal. Not allow you to include more than This may lead, but if you plan well, there is insufficient space to store the elements needed to survive.
Each person must have their own equipment. It is possible that family members could be separated, and each member has to have some supplies with them personally. If walking, a child would not be able to take a lot for a period very long time, but some elements need to help them survive.
In making its emergency preparedness, there are ten areas that need to be considered. Be careful not to think too much in some areas and ignore other areas. All are necessary for survival.
FOOD
There are many alternative options when we consider food. A variety of prepared food are important. It is important that food can be kept for long periods of time without refrigeration. Choose foods that require minimal cooking. Some good choices include bouillon cubes, powdered drinks (hot chocolate, cider), dried fruits and nuts, beef jerky and candy to suck. They provide energy, nutrition and aa help boost morale.
WATER
The water can be stored at home, in various container sizes, but small 1 or 2 liter size containers of implementation are very important. 2 liter soft drink bottles are ideal. containers folding are very useful for storing in a container, and that can be folded when empty. Large plastic bags are very useful in collecting water dew or rain. Water also can be boiled, distilled or purified water with purification tablets or a water purification kit. All these methods must be included in the kit.
SHELTER HEAT and
There are many products available in this area. A tube tent is small enough to fit in a backpack and very versatile. It is basically a ground cloth tied with cords that can easily be converted into a shelter, used as a ground cloth or a lid to maintain a dry pack. Emergency "space" sleeping bags and blankets and emergency blankets are also very good for maintaining body heat and humid climate out. These are light and occupy little space in a kit.
KITCHEN
With a bag of charcoal and a Dutch oven, you can take the heat and cook almost anything. However, they are bulky and charcoal should be used overseas, where there is sufficient ventilation. There are various sizes of sterno or hot instant it becomes available. A shelf to sit on a can of sterno takes up very little space and can heat water, soup and cook simple meals. Waterproof matches, fire starters, disposable, and compressed fuel tablets are just a few items that can be very useful.
LIGHT
There are many types and sizes of oil lamps that are available to get our houses when we lose electricity. This is the easiest way and probably maintenance the safest. In a pack of a flashlight (the shop flashlight batteries to last longer) is essential. There are also special flashlights that do not require batteries or flashlight radios that can operate with multiple power sources, including solar and crank.
COMMUNICATION
This is often an area you forget to include in our planning. There are few simple things can be very useful. A whistle can be blown up with less energy and listen beyond of his voice. Also a mirror for signaling for help is excellent. A radio with the possibility of multiple sources of power is very important too, namely what is happening, where the authorities are asking people to go or what to do.
Sanitation and Hygiene
There is nothing better than a few things simple hygiene such as a comb, toothbrush, razor, shampoo or morale. smaller versions of these items can easily fit into a package. A kind of "Bath carries" is a must.
FIRST AID
Of course, a first aid kit is a must for any emergency. The basic items and a simple first aid instruction sheet should be included in each kit.
CLOTHING AND PERSONAL
One change of clothing, especially extra socks, underwear and a jacket to be added to your computer. A hat, gloves and hiking shoes would also be very useful. Other services items such as feminine supplies, diapers, medications, glasses or sunglasses Extra comfort toys ", a book, writing materials, and games cards are necessary and useful.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS AND MONEY
It is very important to have a package with copies of all your important documents, such such as insurance and other legal documents, wills, birth certificates, marriage certificate, bank account numbers, family photos and other documents. If someone has spread is very useful to give the authorities a recent photo of what you are looking for. Be sure to include some money on your computer, both large and small change quantities.
Remember that some items need to be rotated. It could be a good practice once a year when you change your clocks for daylight saving time, and change the batteries in your smoke detector, to rotate and also upgrade kit items to the 72 hours that need to be changed. In this way, always updated and ready for an emergency.
